The next day Alisha was at the address provided to her by 9 am. She hoped she wasn’t late. That was the usual reporting time at the restaurant too. But she had no idea when personal chefs reported.
The door was opened by Mrs. Malhotra. She had a wide smile on her face. Alisha really liked the lady. She gave motherly vibes.
“Welcome Ms. Ahuja! I was waiting for you. Please come in!”
Alisha smiled and entered in while speaking.
“Thank you Mrs. Malhotra. Please don’t call me Ms. Ahuja. Alisha will be fine.”
The lady nodded and called for her son.
“What?”
Alisha heard a bored voice coming from a room. Hmm! He had a good voice. Deep and husky.
“Come out Advaith! She’s not your servant! She is here to help you. Greet her!”
Alisha smiled at how she treated her son like a baby. Typical Indian mothers!
Her breath stuck in her throat when a well built, seemingly muscular man came out of the room. He carried a bored expression and looked at his mother.
“Where are your manners, young man? Greet the lady!”
The man rolled his eyes and spared a fleeting glance at her side muttering a bored hello and started moving back to his room.
“Advaith! Come back here this instant. Is this how you greet someone?”
“What do you want me to do then? Shake her hand?”
He asked irritated and marched back to his room. The lady looked at her apologetically. Alisha smiled in understanding and said.
“That’s fine. I understand where he is coming from. Not being to communicate with people openly due to his condition, koi bhi aise krega. Don’t worry about it mam.”
She relaxed and blinked her eyes in gratitude.
“Thank you for understanding. Meri ek aur request thi. Since we did not discuss about the timings yesterday, could you reach here by 7 am from tomorrow. Advaith is more of an early breakfast man. He takes his breakfast by 8.”
Alisha looked at the lady in hesitation. She had no issues coming early but the transportation was the issue.
“I have no problem in coming early mam. Lekin mere area mai the earliest metro comes at 6:30, which will make it very difficult for me to reach by 7 am. Toh?”
“Koi baat nhi. Advaith will send his car and driver to pick you up. Right Advaith?”
“Yeah ok.”
The lady giggled hearing her son’s voice.
“Silly boy! Saari baatein sunegi lekin nakhre dikhane hai. Leave him. Come I’ll show you around the house. You can do whatever you want here when you’re not working.”
“Excuse me! She is not allowed to snoop around my place.”
Advaith came out of his room and exclaimed in slight irritation. He reciprocated his mother’s glare with equal fierceness. But maa se kaun jeet skta hai?
“You know what, do whatever you want to. Just make sure she doesn’t bother me.”
Alish bowed her head and slowly whispered in Mrs. Malhotra’s ear.
“Its ok mam. I don’t think he’ll like me wandering around his place-”
“Oh forget about him. You’re not a servant here. Plus pure din khaali thodi mai baithogi. Come on, I’ll show you around.”
Alisha didn’t know what more to say so she silently followed the lady.
“This is the home theatre. He has the subscriptions of all the streaming platforms so feel free to use them anytime.”
She said and Alisha had already started making a list of all the series and movies she was going to watch. She was then taken to the terrace where a beautiful garden was maintained.
“This is my favourite place in his house. As you can see he is very good at gardening. One of the things he loves to do. Although he has to cover himself completely for that but it makes him happy. You can come here whenever you’re in a mood of relaxing. Have a nap, read a book or just binge-eat in the sunlight. Lekin make sure to keep the place clean. He cribs a lot when he sees the place untidy.”
Alisha nodded and she was then taken to another room which was actually an indoor swimming pool.
“This is another place where you can relax if you ever wish to. Its temperature controlled so you can set it according to how you like.”
Alisha nodded and thanked her.
“I think that’s it for now. I’ll leave you for your work then. Ahh! Also, here is your cheque for the month.”
Alisha nodded and politely took the cheque from her and put it in her bag. She could gush over it later on.
“He takes his lunch by 2 pm, so you have plenty of time. Feel free to do whatever you want till then. And you can leave after making dinner and having yours. He usually takes it by 9 pm. So if you want to leave early, bana kr jaa skti ho. The driver will drop you.”
Alisha nodded and the lady took her leave. She heaved a huge sigh. Feels so good to be at work.
It was 10:30 right now and she had to have lunch ready by 2. She had a lot of time to decide what to make. First she decided to get familiar with the kitchen. It was a tastefully arranged modular kitchen. She was going to love working here. She got familiar with the placement of all the ingredients she’d need throughout.
It took her an hour to go through the kitchen and the refrigerator and learn to use the appliances.
By 12 pm Alisha, after deliberate contemplation with herself, decided to knock on Advaith’s door and ask him what he wanted to eat for lunch.
She took a deep breath and rubbed her palms on her dress and knocked on the door.
“What?”
“Umm-what do you want to have for lunch?”
“Anything. Or whatever you can make.”
She knew it was a taunt but she decided not to comment on it. Her food will do that for her.
