Ayesha started going back to her friends only to be pulled back by a hand on her elbow.
“I'm instructed to bring you home and I'm not leaving without you.”
Ayesha sighed in annoyance and pulled out her phone. She dialled her father's number but it was picked up by her mother.
“Mom? Why am I being sent someone to pick me up like I'm a baby?”
“Driver ko kahi zaruri jaana pad gaya. I never wanted to send that man but your father insisted. Anyway, he's not different from a driver.”
“Mom! Stop it! He holds a respectable position in our company. Stop demeaning him.”
She heard her mother snicker.
“Sure darling! Still it doesn't change the fact that he's just a cook's son. Now stop arguing with me and get home. Aur haan! Usse zyada baat krne ki koi zarurat nhi hai.”
Ayesha felt her blood boil but stayed quiet. She had no option other than that.
She disconnected the call and went back to where he was waiting for her. She surpassed him with her head held high and he chuckled at her behavior.
He opened the passenger door for her but she opened the back door.
“Excuse me? Tumhara driver nhi hu mai. Aage baitho.”
She gave him a sarcastic look and said.
“Aaj ke liye mere designated driver ho.”
She made herself comfortable on the backseat and he shook his head shutting the front door.
They were just 5 minutes into the drive when he heard her hiss and looked at her through the rear view mirror. She was removing her heels and massaging her soles.
“Why do you wear those when you know your feet are tender?”
He said in a scolding tone. She ignored him and continued massaging her sore feet. Abhijay continued to look at her but when she didn't relax even after minutes of massage, he sighed.
“Put your feet up here?”
He said patting his thigh and she looked at him wide eyed.
“What?”
“Put your feet here. Trust me.”
“No!”
He lookedat her through the rear view mirror and took her name sternly.
“Ayesha!”
He used the tone she couldn't deny. She could never deny. She cursed and looked away slowly putting one of her feet on his thigh. He smiled and asked for the other one.
When both her feet were resting on his thigh he started massaging her soles with his fingertips and her head fell back. A moan slipped passed her lips shamelessly as his hands worked their way on her sore soles.
“Oh God! I love you foot massages!”
For the moment she forgot how she was supposed to be behaving with him and he chuckled seeing her behave like old times. Ayesha slowly slipped into slumber and was snoring lightly with her head resting back on the seat.
Abhijay let her feet rest where they were perched on his thigh. She was a quick and a deep sleeper.
He looked at her through the rear view mirror again and a sad smile formed on his face.
Abhijay and Ayesha have known each other since they were kids. They used to be very good friends. Talking non-stop and endlessly, pranking each other, and having each other's back all the time. They were inseparable.
They have been since Abhijay moved to their house with his mother when he was 6. His mother was given the job of their cook after his father's demise. His father too worked for the Khandelwals. He was Ayesha’s father's bodyguard who died protecting him.
So, her father took him and his mother in, giving her a respectable job so that she could raise him without any problems.
Ayesha was 4 when he first met her. And she, being the only baby in the house instantly bonded with him seeing a kid of her age. He was her confidant and vice versa.
At Least until she turned 20. After that her behavior suddenly changed. She started acting rude and ignorant towards him. Stopped talking to him, stopped acknowledging him. It was almost as if she started treating him as only an employee.
Abhijay stopped the car in front of the mansion. He carefully put her legs down and got out of the car. He then opened the back door and smiled seeing her sleeping without any care in the world.
His phone rang making him silent it so that her sleep doesn't get disturbed. He saw the caller id indicating Mr. Khandelwal’s call.
“Sir!”
“Kaha pahuche tum log Abhijay?”
“Gate ke bahar hai sir. She is asleep. Was just going to wake her up.”
He answered even though he had no plans on waking her up. She looked so peaceful sleeping like that.
“Don't you dare, young man. No one disturbs my daughter's sleep.”
He heard the man's gruff voice and frowned. How was he supposed to get her inside then?
“But sir? How will she get inside if I'll not-”
“I'm sure she is not that heavy. And you're a strong man. Carry her inside. And make sure she doesn't wake up.”
Abhijay was shocked. Carry her? In his arms?
“But sir?”
“You have any objection, young man? Consider it an order.”
With that the call was disconnected. Abhijay was in a deep dilemma. But he also had no other option.
He took hold of her sandals and then carefully pulled her out, not disturbing her sleep.
Her snaked an arm around her waist holding her in place and her head rested on his shoulder.
He locked the car and then picked her up bridal style. She snuggled against him and continued to snore lightly, making him smile.
He carried her inside effortlessly. Mr. Khandelwal was right. She weighed almost nothing. Too light for a 24 year old. Why did she have to maintain a model-like figure? She should eat.
He could feel her breath against his neck and her fragrance invade his senses. She was so close to him. After such a long time.
He knew he'd go crazy if he held her any longer and he quickly laid her on her bed and left the room after covering her with a duvet.
