"Hum zindagi bhar bina aulad ke rehne ko taiyar hai Mehr lekin kisi aur ke shohar kehlane ke liye taiyar nhi hai. Aur na kabhi honge. Hamari sirf ek hi mohabbat hai. Aur wo hai hamari begum Mehr-un-nissa. Aur ye baat aap apne dimag mai gaanth baandhle."
He said wiping her tears.
"Hume apni begum roti hui achhi nhi lagti. Unka hasta hua chehra pasand hai hume. Na ki ye utra hua. Jisme na khushi hai aur na muskurahat."
She sobbed and launched herself in his arms. He caressed her hair and rocked her back and forth like a baby.
Slowly her cries died down. He pulled back and cupped her face removing her hair from her face.
"Ab dobara aap hume iss kaaran se roti hui na dikhe. Aur kal se aap sabha mai aa rhi hai. Sab apni rani ko bhut yaad kr rhe hai. Khaas kr unke Shah."
He teased her and she giggled with glassy eyes. He smiled seeing her smile after so long.
She was his peace. His sukoon. It seemed like his got his sukoon back after so long.
"Lekin aage jaakar aapko singhasan ke liye waaris chahiye hoga tab?"
She asked lying in his arms after a round of passionate lovemaking which finally wasn't out of obligation.
"Toh? Hum apne bhaiyon ki auladon mai se kisi ko waaris ghoshit kr denge."
He said casually as if it was the most obvious thing. He then cupped her face and said.
"Hume aulad nhi ho chalega lekin hume aap hamare saath chahiye. Hamesha. Sirf aap Mehr."
He said assuring her again and she smiled snuggling into his arms.
Mehr-un-nissa was slowly coming back to her usual self. Ibrahim felt happy to see her smiling and giggling again.
Although sometimes he found her sitting alone in seclusion but he never left her alone at such times.
He knew not being able to conceive was affecting her mental health and he tried to keep her as happy as possible.
Whenever she would start feeling good something or the other would happen and she would go back into her shell.
His father never left any chance to make her realise that she wasn't able to bear a child till now.
Ibrahim and his father had numberous fights related to the same.
His siblings were a major support during these times. They would try their level best to keep Mehr-un-nissa cheerful with their antics.
She loved to spend time with her brothers and sisters-in law. They would make her forget about her being childless. They made her feel as if they were her own children. She felt protective of them and the need to keep them safe from every harm.
So when an alliance came for Ibrahim's sister she was the one who approved it after getting it confirmed from 10 different people.
Ibrahim felt really happy seeing her being so protective of his sister.
"Hamari bhi toh behen hi hai na wo."
She had said making his heart fill with immense love for his woman. How he wished he could fulfil her only desire and make her the happiest.
He sometimes felt incomplete. He couldn't make her happy.
It was 5 years into their marriage and it finally happened. It was announced by his wife's dasis that she was pregnant.
The atmosphere around completely changed. Mehr-un-nissa was glowing. She was so happy that she had a completely new glow on her face. The pregnancy glow.
Ibrahim too was elated. The people were happy for their king and queen.
But the happiness was shortlived. The royal doctor had asked Mehr-un-nissa to take care because apparently according to him she was taking too much tension and stress.
Her body couldn't handle it and she ended up loosing the baby. The period post it was so tense and traumatic for both. Specifically Ibrahim.
He wanted to run away and hide his wife from the word. But he had duties as a king and he couldn't do that.
His father who had gotten better when the pregnancy news was announced became worse. His jibes and taunts increased manifold.
It increased to an extent where people had started talking about their queen being infertile too.
That was the last straw. After that he had instructed that a separate castle be made right beside theirs. He in the name of gifting his parents a new castle had shifted his father along with all his wives there.
He didn't want to part with his mother because she was the only motivating factor he had now but he had to.
His father or his wives except for his mother were not allowed in the main hall. He wasn't allowed during the proceeding or when Mehr-un-nissa was around. In short, he wasn't allowed at all.
Nizamuddin protested. He shouted and fought with Ibrahim.
"Hamari begum ko takleef dene wale ko hum waise toh zinda hi nhi chhodte lekin aap baba hai hamare. Aapko toh maar bhi skte. Isliye jo ho raha hai wo hone de. Isse pehle hum rishta bhula de aur Shah ki tarah hukum kre."
He had said when Nizamuddin had comfronted him.
"Gaddi sar chadd gyi hai dikha rha hai."
He glared at his son who just snickered and left.
The main castle now had only him and Mehr-un-nissa and his siblings. Mehr-un-nissa started coming back to her usual self when Ibrahim's step brother's wife delivered her first baby.
And since his wife was too weak to even look after him Mehr-un-nissa was the only who took care of him. For her, Ayhan was her first born. He too was close to her than his own mother.
Ibrahim loved seeing their bond. But when Ayhan went back to his parents' room at night Mehr-un-nissa would realise what she didn't have. But one hug from Ibrahim and she would forget everything for the man who was doing everything in his reach to make her happy.
