A month passed by in a blur. During this month Shahnara Begum along with Nawab Nizamuddin Malik visited the Alamgarh kingdom and Shahnara made Mehr-un-nissa wear the ring of Ibrahim's name indirectly engaging her to him.
The ring perfectly suited her status as the future queen of the most powerful kingdom.
Today was Ibrahim's coronation ceremony and all the kings from all the kingdoms were invited.
Mehr-un-nissa was there as his fiance. The ceremony was going on and when Ibrahim was finally going to wear the crown he stood in front of his father.
Bowing his head in respect he took his blessings. His father stood proud and patted his back encouragingly.
He then moved to his mother and bowed to her in respect. She smiled at him with love and caressed his cheek while blessing him.
He then stood in front of Mehr-un-nissa who was standing beside his mother. He gave her a slight nod and she gave a shy nod back. They weren't allowed to communicate much before the nikah. It was considered haram.
And they respected their boundaries.
Mehr-un-nissa saw in awe as Ibrahim walked towards the throne with confident and powerful steps. His aura screamed danger. His earlier smiling face now had a serious expression and she just kept looking at him.
She had to match his confidence and be his better half in some time. The thought made her smile. Her chest puffed up with pride for her would he shohar.
Soon the darbar sat and Ibrahim started addressing the committee for the first time as a king. Mehr-un-nissa looked in awe as he answered everyone who was elder to him with command and respect at the same time.
A quality most kings lacked. She felt a hand on her shoulder and saw her mother-in-law looking at her with a smile. She blushed and looked away.
Shahnara Begum was happy. This was the first time she felt happy after her husband's second marriage. After he married again she felt neglected.
He only paid attention to her during religious ceremonies where he needed her as the queen. Rest of the times he was either with his third and favourite wife or with his concubines.
His behaviour hurt her. But she was his wife and moreover she was a woman. And women were not allowed to go against men let alone their husbands.
But today she was happy. Her son was the king. And she knew her upbringing wouldn't let her down. She loved Mehr-un-nissa for her son. She knew the girl would love him and at the same time keep him on his path.
That was what partners did. Be with each other in tough times and keep them in the right path.
Another month passed and the entire Malik family was in Alamgarh. Why? Because it was the Shah of Malik dynasty and the princess of Alamgarh's marriage.
Mehr-un-nissa was dressed in her white joda looking like the queen she was. The white color looked so beautiful on her. Her face symbolising what she wore. Peace.
She felt happy. She felt giddy.
Ibrahim too was dressed in his white sherwani. He was sitting in the common hall surrounded by hundreds of people.
He was tapping his foot impatiently. Who was the Shah of the biggest empire waiting for?
His ears perked up hearing the sound he could never forget in his life. The sound of her anklets.
A smile grazed his lips as he imagined her walking towards the other end. The hall was decided into two parts with a white curtain and they were sitting on the opposite ends.
The maulvi sat in front of Mehr-un-nissa and asked her consent for the marriage which she happily gave. Her hand was in her mother's who caressed it time to time giving her courage.
When she gave her consent the females on her side chanted God's name and Ibrahim's smile widened.
The maulvi then moved to Ibrahim's side and asked for his consent. His loud, confident voice boomed in the entire hall and Mehr-un-nissa's heartbeat fastened hearing his confident yes.
Her sister teased her and she blushed. All the while her head bowed down in shyness.
The curtain was dropped and everyone from both the sides congratulated each other. Mehr-un-nissa couldn't dare to look up.
She heard her mother-in-law bless her and she acknowledged with a shy smile.
"Aapi! Ek dafa nazar utha kr dekh toh le. Shah Malik ki nazre nhi hatt rhi aap se."
Her sister whispered in her ears and Mehr-un-nissa reprimanded her with a blush adorning her face.
Ibrahim couldn't take his eyes off his beautiful wife. She looked ethereal in her joda.
Ibrahim was asked to sit beside her for the blessing ceremony.
"Ek Shah ki begum ko aise sar jhuka kar baithna shobha nhi deta."
*Forgive me people I don't know Urdu
She blushed hearing his voice close to her and slowly looked up. She still didn't look at him.
He smiled at her shyness. She was all red. And all his.
After the nikah Mehr-un-nissa was taken to her room to get ready for the rukhsati as she would be leaving for her marital home with Ibrahim and his family.
Rukhsati was a teary event and Ibrahim felt sad seeing her tears. But he knew this was necessary. It was the custom being followed since years.
She was made to sit in the palanquin and they set off to their home.
It took them two days to reach their kingdom and Mehr-un-nissa was welcomed in a grand way.
The people were so excited to get a glimpse of her. And why not. After all she was their queen.
She was welcomed inside the castle and was shown her room. All the queens had their private rooms because the kings had multiple wives.
