A few days later Myra was sitting with her family having dinner when she noticed her parents actioning each other something.
She eyed them suspiciously and asked.
"What is it? Out with it guys. Aap log secrets rakhne mai achhe nhi ho."
(You are not good at keeping secrets.)
She said taking a sip of her mango shake.
Her mother laughed nervously knowing her daughter's tantrums and said.
"Tere liye rishta dekha hai ek."
(We have seen an alliance for you.)
Myra continued to sip her shake expecting it.
"Aur mujhse kaun puchhega?"
(And who will ask me?)
She asked and her father looked at her.
"Haan toh ab puchh rhe hai na. Shaadi ke liye haan thodi kri hai. Bas rishta dekha hai. Aur waise bhi milne ke baad tu mana nhi kregi."
(So we are asking now. We haven't said yes for marriage yet. Just seen an alliance. And moreover you won't say no after meeting him.)
Her father said confidently and she raised her eyebrow stirring the shake.
"Aisa kya? Naam batao zara ladke ka."
(Is it? Tell me his name.)
She asked and her father grinned.
"Advik!"
Myra frowned and asked.
"Kaun Advik?"
(Who Advik?)
She took a sip and her mother said.
"Kitne Adviko ko jaanti hai tu? Ek hi toh hai. Hamara Advik."
(How many Adviks do you know? There is only one. Our Advik.)
She spat the drink and looked at them wide eyed.
"No!"
She said horrified looking at them wide eyed.
"Yes!"
Advik had said when he heard about his alliance with Myra.
His parents had been pestering him since more than an year for marriage now.
And when he heard about Myra's alliance he found it as a perfect opportunity to get rid of this daily marriage talk and moreover Myra was his bestie. She knew his well and he knew her well. There couldn't be any problem right.
"Aap logo ka dimag sahi hai na? How can I marry Advik?"
(Are you guys alright?)
She said making a weird face. Her and Advik as a married couple was something that was very difficult for her to imagine.
She had never seen him as anything more than her best friend.
Moreover you need to be attracted to the one you are marrying. And how can she be attracted to someone she has seen shit his pants.
"Arre! Kisi aur se shaadi krni nhi aur Advik se kr nhi skti? Chahti kya hai tu?"
(You don't want to marry anyone else and you can't marry Advik? What do you want?)
Her mother exclaimed and she looked down thinking.
"Mai nhi jaanti teri kya problem hai jo tu Advik se shaadi ke liye itni opposed hai. Usne haan krdi hai toh tu usse hi baat krna."
(I don't know what is the issue that you are so opposed to marrying him. He had said yes so you talk to him only.)
She was shocked. He had said yes. What is he even thinking that he said yes to marry her.
"Usne haan krdi? Mujhe shaadi krne ke liye?"
(He said yes? To marry me?)
Her mother nodded and she got mum. She needed to talk to him. Why did he say yes? Did he have feelings for her?
No! That's not possible. He would have told me. But then why?
She quickly finsihed the leftover food on her plate and rushed to her room.
She called Advik's number and he picked up on the second ring already expecting her call.
"Hi!"
He said excitedly but was met with Myra's yell.
"Why did you say yes to the marriage?"
He frowned. Did she not want to marry him? Was he the only one excited?
"Why not? We are best friends."
"Exactly Advik. We are best friends. You know what. You mujhe mil abhi. Terrace pr."
(Meet me right now. On the terrace.)
She said and disconnected the call. She marched up to the terrace and waited for him.
He came there two minutes later in his sweatpants and hands in the pockets. He jumped over the terrace and sat in front of her trying to read her mood.
She sat in front of him with her hands folded in front of her chest and glared at him.
"Why did you say yes?"
She yelled at him and he frowned settling settling close to her.
"Why not? Tu meri best friend hai."
(You are my best friend.)
He said and she looked at him trying to get her thoughts sorted. He sighed knowing what she was feeling and asked.
"I know there's something troubling you. Kya baat hai?"
(What is it?)
He asked and she said.
"Ek problem ho toh bolu na. There are so many."
(I would say if there would be one.)
She said and he chuckled.
"Tu bol toh sahi. Teri problems ka bhi ilaaj nikalte hai."
(Just say it. We'll find solutions for your problems.)
She took a deep breath and said.
"Ok. First, tu mera bestie hai. How can i marry you?"
(You are my bestie.)
"Toh that's even better na. I know you well and you know me well. Koi dikkat hi nhi hai. Na koi misunderstanding hogi na koi jealousy issue."
(No problem at all. No misunderstanding no jealousy issues.)
He said and she bit her lip. He was right.
"Ok. Next issue. I don't love you. I mean I do. Lekin as a friend na. Not romantic wala."
He smiled and said.
"So? People who go for arranged marriage also fall in love after marriage right. Aur hamare paas toh advantage hai ki we already care about each other and love each other platonically. Toh romantically bhi ho jaayega."
(Romantically will also happen.)
She again nodded. He was right again.
"Umm-what if aage jaake you don't fall in love me with me ya mujhe kisi aur se pyaar ho jaata hai?"
(What if I fall in love with someone else?)
"Not happening. Once we are married mai tere alawa kisi aur ko dekhunga bhi nhi. Waise abhi kaunsa dekhta hu. But yeah! And about you falling in love with someone else, I know you. Itni loyal toh tu hai."
(I will not look at anyone else. I don't don't it now too. You are that loyal.)
She smiled knowing he was right. But now came the main issue. The only thing she was genuinely concerned about.
"Lekin main issue ye hai ki we are not attracted to each other physically. Matlab aaj tak hum sirf platonically saath the Advik. Ek husband wife ka relationship bilkul alag hota hai."
(We were together platonically. A husband amd wife's relationship is completely different.)
He smiled mischievously and scooted closer to her.
"So what? Wo bhi change ho jaayega. Aaj se pehle tujhe friend ki tarah hug krta tha. Aaj ke baad husband ki tarah kr lunga. Aaj se pehle forehead pr kiss krta tha. Aaj ke baad lips pr kr dunga."
(That will also change. I hugged you like a friend. Now I'll do it as a husband. I kissed you on the forehead. Now I'll do it on the lips.)
He said with a shrug as if it was normal and she gave him a deadpanned look.
"Its not as easy as you say it. Kehna aasan hai lekin-"
(Saying is easy but-)
Her rant was cut short by his lips. It happened so fast that she for a moment thought she imagined it.
"See! Krna bhi aasan hai."
(Doing it is also easy.)
Did he just-?
