Sanjana's POV
I was sitting in my room doing my work. Sanya sat beside me and kept her head on my shoulder.
"You are the best di."
I sigh and ask her.
"Ab kya kara hai tune?"
(What did you do now?)
She pouts and looks at me.
"Maine kuch nhi kara. Pata nhi kyu wo Professor Khadoos aapse milna chahte hai."
(I didn't do anything. Don't know why the Professor Khadoos wants to meet you.)
I raise my eyebrows at her and she lowers her head.
"Wo mai class ke beech mai jab wo padha rhe the..mai cartoon bana rhi thi."
(When he was teaching.. I was making cartoons.)
"Sanya!"
I groan and held my head.
Kya hoga iss ladki ka.
"I am sorry di. Dobara nhi hoga. Pakka."
(It won't happen again. Promise.)
"Hona bhi nhi chahiye."
(It shouldn't.)
I glare at her and she nods obediently.
I continue doing my work and she says casually.
"Toh kal 3 baje aa jaana sharp. Nhi toh kachha chaba jaayenge wo mujhe."
(Come at sharp 3 tomorrow. Otherwise he will eat me alive.)
"Excuse me! Mai kahi nhi aa rhi hu. Papa se bol."
(I am not going anywhere. Ask papa.)
"Papa se bolna hota toh aapke paas kyu aati mai. Di please na. Papa bhut gussa karenge. Mummy ne toh chapet laga deni hai mujhe. Please di please. Ek baar chal lo. Dobara nhi karungi na please."
(If I had to ask papa why would I come to you. Papa will scold a lot. Mumma will beat me. One time. It won't happen again.)
She hold my hands and shakes them vigorously.
"Achha baba thik hai. Lekin agar dobara kabhi aisa hua. Toh mai papa ko bata dungi sab. Samjhi?"
(Ok fine. But if it happens again. I will tell papa everything. Understood?)
She nods and I take my hands out of her grip.
I quickly mail my office for an half day stating a family emergency.
Well, she is an emergency.
Siddharth's POV
I enter the class and Sanya is very obediently sitting on the first bench already.
Wow! I am impressed.
She smiled widely and I shake my head. This girl!
I start teaching the topic and for a change she is listening very carefully. She even raised some doubts. Wow! Progress!
I start leaving the class after the time is over.
I look at the time. Its 15 minutes to 3.
Sanya comes out and looks at me.
"Mai apni guardian ko lekar aati hu Sir."
(I will get my guardian sir.)
I nod and she runs from there.
I go to the staff room and it is almost empty since there is a cultural program going on downstairs and teachers are busy in that.
I heard a knock on the door and allow the person to come in.
"Good morning Sir."
I froze. That voice. I can never forget.
I turn around and there she is. Standing there looking beautiful as always.
She looks at me shocked. There are so many emotions in her eyes. The most prominent one being pain.
I gulped and moved towards her.
She looked away for a moment and then looked back. This time her face blank.
"Good morning Sir. I am Sanya Sharma's guardian."
Sanjana's POV
I still can't believe he is standing in front of me.
Its been 2 years that I last saw him.
All the memories, the hurt, the pain and the betrayal came back rushing to me.
He cleared his throat and said.
"Sanya is performing very poor in my subject. Aaj mujhe kuch improvement dikhi but overall agar aise hi chala toh she is very well aware that she is going to fail my subject."
(I saw some improvement todat but overall if this continues...)
He said looking at Sanya and she lowered her head.
Good for her! She deserves someone calling her out. Papa ne bhut bigaad rakha hai isse.
"If you want I can arrange a special class. Kuch aur bhi bache hai who are asking for the same. Lekin wo tab hi fruitful hai jab you actually are serious about it."
(There are some other children asking for the same. But it will be fruitful only when you are serious about it.)
"I am Sir. I am sorry for my actions."
He smiles at her and look away. That smile brings so many memories.
"Good. That was all. I just wanted you to know about Sanya's performance."
I nod and thank him and we got up.
"Umm-Sanjana?"
I freeze on my spot. Why did he has to take my name like that?
I turn and look at him emotionlessly.
He looks at me with hope and-
"Can we talk? Please!"
"I was here for Sanya. I think we have had our conversation about her. There is nothing else to talk. Sir."
He gulped and looked at me as if pleading me.
My gaze went to his hand.
He still wears that ring. Why? What does he want to prove?
I gave him an angry look and came out rushing from there.
Sanya was following me and I knew she was going to ask questions.
We sat in the car and I held the steering wheel tightly.
"Di?"
She starts slowly. I close my eyes knowing what is coming ahead.
"Aap unhe pehle se jaante ho?"
(You knew him from before?)
I grip the wheel tighter.
"You too seemed close."
A tear fell from my eye.
"I am sorry di."
A few tears escape my eyes. I shook my head and hug her.
"Its not your fault."
I kiss her head and she looks at me.
"Aap gussa ho unse."
(You are angry at him.)
I wipe my tears angrily and say.
"He is nothing to me."
She keeps quiet and I drove home.
I go to my room straight away and lock myself in the bathroom.
I switch on the fan and slid against the wall.
I let the tears fall and break down crying as the memories play in my mind again.
Why do I have to meet him again? He was out of my life. Why did he have to come back?
I sit there crying for God knows how long.
I wash my face and go out. Sanya is sitting there looking worried.
"Di? Aap thik ho?"
(Are you okay?)
I smile slightly and nod.
The rest of the day I busied myself so that I can take my mind off him.
Siddharth's POV
I am sitting in my apartment thinking about her.
I remember the day it all started.
We were in the final semester of our college.
Me and my friends were sitting in the canteen after class as usual.
That's when my eyes fell on her. I knew her. Sanjana Sharma of MCA course. She had a pleasant aura around her. We have never talked to each other. Every day after class she used to pass by the canteen and order the same thing daily. Cold coffee.
Today also she ordered the same and sat under a shade sipping on it casually. One of my friend saw me looking at her and put his arm around my shoulder.
"Kya baat bhai? Pasand wasand aa gyi kya?"
(What happened? You like her or something?)
I scowled and removed his hand.
"Aisa kuch nhi hai. She passed by here and its natural your attention is diverted if someone goes by you."
(Its nothing like that.)
All of them smirk and I know that they are not going to leave this topic easily.
