Chavvi's POV
I am sitting in my room all dolled up for my wedding.
Yes! I am getting married today.
No. I didn't have any boyfriend or stuff. It is an arranged marriage.
His name is Samrat Ahuja.
We have not met much. I know that he is 2 years elder to me and theirs is a family business.
I don't know a lot about him. The little information that I have about him was given by his younger brother.
Sushant Ahuja. He is my junior in college. I knew him since before but after my marriage was fixed with Samrat ji, me and Sushant became good friends.
He has never called me bhabhi. He thinks I am too young to be called as bhabhi.
Me and Sushant share a very fun and loving relationship. He flirts with me as if I am not about to get married to his real elder brother.
Funny how I don't know much about the man I am going to be married to in a few hours but know almost everything about his younger brother.
OH! I ranted so much but didn't introduce myself.
Hello! My name is Chavvi Gupta. I am 24 years old. My father, Mr. Naresh Gupta teaches in a college. He is a professor so you can imagine how strict he must be. Kidding! He is the sweetest father and loves me a lot. Mumma is a housemaker.
I am in my final year of college. I am pursuing medicals and I aspire to become a doctor one day.
You all must be thinking why am I getting married while I am still in college.
Same old reason! My grandmother. She wants to see me 'settled' in my life before she leaves the world.
Actually her health has been deteriorating since a few months so she wanted to see me happy with my husband. That's why.
I break out of my thoughts as I hear someone violently knocking on the door.
That must be my little sister, Niya. She is my bua's daughter and is 15 years old. She has been teasing me all during the functions.
I shake my head and open the door. Mumma's worried and tensed face comes in few.
"Kya hua mumma? Itne pareshan kyu lag rhe ho?"
(What happened mumma? You look tensed?)
She comes inside and holds my hands.
"Samrat ji apne kamre mai nhi hai beta."
(Samrat ji is not in his room beta.)
Ok!
"Wo apne kamre mai kyu honge? Wo toh neeche honge na?"
(Why would he be in his room? He would be down right?)
I ask her. Why is she so worried?
She shakes her head and says.
"Wo yaha nhi hai."
(He is not here.)
I frown and ask.
"Kya matlab?"
(What do you mean?)
"Matlab ki wo bhaag gaye yaha se."
(Means he ran away.)
I heard another voice. Papa! He comes towards me and cups my face.
"Hume maaf krde bacche. Na hum tujhe iss shaadi ke liye pressurize krte aur na hamara iss tarah mazak banta."
(Forgive me beta. Neither we would have pressurized you for marriage nor we would have become a joke.)
I hold his hand and shake my head.
"Kya keh rhe ho papa? Aapki kya galti hai? Lekin mujhe samajh nhi aa rha ki-"
(What are you saying papa? What is your fault in this? But I don't understand-)
Just then my would be mother-in-law comes there. Umm-maybe not would be.
She holds her hands in front of my parents and say.
"Hume maaf kr dijiye. Hume bilkul bhi andaaza nhi tha ki Samrat aisa kuch kr dega."
(Please forgive us. We didn't know Samrat would do something like this.)
"Hum aapki baat samajhte hai behen ji lekin ab hamari beti ka kya? Uska toh bina matlab mazak banke reh jaayega na."
(We understand sister but what about our daughter? She would become a joke.)
My father says and I know he is getting angry and is blaming himself for what is happening.
"Mai uske liye maafi maang rhi hu bhaisahab."
(I apologise for that.)
She folds her hands and I know she is genuinely sorry.
She is a very sweet lady just like mumma.
"Aapki maafi se meri beti ki jo samaj mai beizzati hogi wo toh nhi kam nhi ho jaayegi na?"
(Your apology won't stop my daughter from being mocked.)
And then she utters the words that shock me to the core.
"Agar aap bura na maane toh ek baat kehna chahti hu bhaisahab. Chavvi aur Sushant ki shaadi kara dete hai."
(If you don't mind shall I ask something. Let's get Chavvi and Sushant married.)
Sushant's POV
I was roaming around the venue meeting guests and making sure everything is alright and no one needs anything.
I am very excited. It is bhaiya's wedding.
He is getting married to my senior in college. Chavvi. I don't like to call her bhabhi. She is too young for it.
I know one thing. Once she comes home we are going to be best buddies and partners in crime.
She is super cool and fun to be with. She says I am a little immature but sometimes she herself behaves like kids.
Let me introduce myself to you guys.
My name is Sushant Ahuja. I am in my first year of MBA. Me and Chavvi study in the same college though her course is different. I knew she was senior but we started talking when her marriage was fixed with bhaiya.
We became really good friends in very short time and we know almost everything about each other. I was moving towards the main venue when mummy and papa came and dragged to the rooms area. On the way they told me that bhaiya has ran away.
"Kya!? Kya bol rhe ho ye? Bhaag gaye matlab? Bachhe thodi na hai jo shaadi se bhaag jaayenge. Ruko mai call krta hu unhe. Yahi kahi honge."
(What!? What are you saying? Ran away? He is not a kid that he would run away from his wedding. Wait I will call. He would be here only.)
I fetch my phone and dial his number. It is saying out of network coverage area. I try after a minute and this time it says switched off.
Argh! Where are you bhaiya?
We go to the rooms and search every room on the floor. He is nowhere.
"Hey Bhagwaan! Kya ho rha hai ye? Kaha hai ye ladka? Time ho raha hai. Kya kare ab?"
(Oh God! What is happening? Where is this boy? Its time. What do we do?)
Mumma says panicking. I hold her and side hug her trying to calm her.
'Ye tune achha nhi kia bhaiya.'
"Pehle bhaisahab se baat krte hai. Unhe ye batana padega."
(First talk to brother. We have to tell them.)
Papa say. Mumma nods and says.
"Aap bahar mehmaano ko sambhaliye itne mai bhaisahab se baat krke aati hu."
(You handle the guests and I will talk to brother.)
Papa nods and go to the venue while mumma goes towards Chavvi's parents'. I go to my room while continuously trying bhaiya's number but it is switched off. I throw my phone in anger and it bounces on the bed. I rake my hands through my hair in frustration.
I was sitting on the bed with elbows on my knees not knowing what was going to happen now. After some time mumma comes to my room and holds my hands.
"Tu mera pyaara bachha hai na. Mere liye ek cheez karega."
(You are my dear son. Do one thing for me.)
She asks me and I know that it is something serious else she would never have pleaded me. There are tears in her eyes.
I hate you bhaiya!
I nod and she says something that shocks me.
"Chavvi se shaadi kr le beta."
(Marry Chavvi.)
