Chapter 2

Reyansh switched off the treadmill as he panted heavily. He removed his vest and wiped the sweat off his body.

Being a doctor and that too a cardiologist he was aware of the importance of exercising.

They have made a small exercise room in their house where his parents practiced yoga while he ran the treadmill.

He too tried doing yoga once but it didn't suit him. So he stuck to using the treadmill.

He came out of his room all freshened up to see his father helping his mother in laying out the plates and dishes.

His parents had a love marriage. They were college sweethearts. His grandparents died when he was very young. He did not even remember them properly.

He got grandparents love from his nanu-nanis. Whenever he used go there, they told him stories and took him to park. He was the only child of his parents and still he knew what sibling love was. He has lots of cousins.

It was not like his parents didn't try for another kid. They did but there were complications and Aanchal lost her baby and could not conceive again.

Reyansh was two years old at the time. He got to know about this later when he grew up and till date his heart ached thinking about it.

The worst thing a parent could through is losing their child. He adored their relationship for how they never let go of each other.

Reyansh has always been a studious and focused child. He did have fun and was loved by all his cousins.

He remembered his graduation ceremony. How his mother had gotten emotional seeing her son becoming a doctor and how his father stood there with his chest swelled with pride.

Till date his father boasted around saying, 'Mera beta cardiologist hai'. He smiled thinking about that.

The best feeling is seeing your parents feel proud because of something you did.

His eyes moved towards the clock and he rushed to get ready when he saw the time.

The new interns were arriving today. He was going to allot the mentors for them for which the list was already made.

Ahana too was joining today and he had put her under him. She is very carefree and bubbly girl. He didn't want her to fall in any problem due to this.

It was not like he didn't like her nature. He loved it. But a little bit carefulness was required in their profession.

'Ofcourse! Yahi reason hai you kept her under you.'

Welcome his over active and super irritating conscience. He rolled his eyes. His conscience was obsessed with Ahana.

'Maybe because she is the only girl who has your attention. She is beautiful though.'

His conscience quipped again. He rolled his eyes again.

'Shut up!'

'So you don't find her beautiful.'

'Argh! When did i say that?'

'So you do find her beautiful?'

He could feel it smirking.

'Argh! Shut up!'

Reyansh felt that he would lose his mind if he kept talking to himself anymore so he shut it off. He drove to the hospital.

An hour later all the interns were assembled at the area given to them. He went and addressed them all while his eyes searched for her.

He found her standing at a corner making faces. A smile formed on his face which he quickly covered up. He read out the list of mentors and smiled seeing her expressions when she heard that she would be working under him.

After giving everyone their mentors he asked everyone to report to their respective mentors.

He went to his cabin and waited for the interns to arrive. All of them assembled within 5 minutes. As expected Ahana came in last. Anything to avoid him.

He looked at her for a brief second before speaking.

"Good morning. May i please know your names?"

"Kanishk Tripathi."

"Karan Arora."

"Kinjal Sharma."

"Ahana Malhotra."

"You people would be conducting rounds with me. You have to diagnose their problem and make a chart for their treatment. Clear?"

"Yes doctor."

Came a chorus. Ahana thanked God. So far so good. She was happy he was not giving her any special attention.

He got up and took them for their rounds. He alloted them their patients and all of them started their work. They were supposed to report to him in an hour.

Ahana's patient was a child of about 8 years. He had a blockage in his heart which caused a blockage in blood supply in some parts of his body.

The boy looked so pale. She indulged in a talk, asking him about his favourite cartoons, and movies. She told him jokes making him laugh and asked about his health in between so that he did not get scared.

He had his surgery the next day and he was already very scared.

"Didi mujhe marna nhi hai."

(I don't want to die.)

Ahana froze. She smiled and caressed his head.

"Kisne kaha tumse ye?"

(Who said this to you??

"Mumma roti hai aur kehti hai ki mujhe kuch ho gaya toh?"

(Mumma cries and says what if anything happens to me?)

She smiled and said.

"Mai aapko ek baat batau. Jo aapke doctor hai na. Wo bhut acche hai. Wo aapko kuch nhi hone denge."

(Let me tell you one thing. Your doctor. He is very nice. He won't let anything happen to you.)

"Pakka?"

(Promise?)

"Pakka!"

(Promise!)

The boy smiled. Ahana prayed to God for his safety.

She went to his cabin to give her reports. Rest of the interns were already present there. She looked at her watch and bit her tongue.

She was 10 minutes late. She looked at him to see his mood. But he was staring at her blankly.

"Do you have your reports ready Miss?"

She nodded and kept the file on the table in front of him. He briefed the rest of the interns what all they were supposed to do the rest of the day and dismissed them.

One of her fellow interns, Kinjal smirked at her while going out.

"You are so gone."

She whispered smirking and Ahana whined mentally.

'I know that. Tell me how to save myself.'

"Miss Ahana Malhotra. Would you please tell me why were you late?"
