Chapter 25

Dhriti was ready and sitting in her room trying to control her emotions. She had just come to realise that within a few hours she would finally leave her house forever.

On top of that the bachha party sniffing near her was not helping her. Aru has been crying buckets and continuosly hugging her and she had been trying to console the little girl.

Adi and Arnav have continuously been trying to make her quiet.

"Bas Aru! Tabiyat kharab ho jaayegi."

(Stop Aru. You will fall sick.)

Adi said and Aru sobbed in Dhriti's lap.

"Ruhi aao chalo tumhe pata hai bahar maggi ka stall bhi laga hai."

(Ruhi come you know there is a maggi stall also.)

Her ears perked up at the mention of it and she looked at Arnav with teary eyes.

"Sachhi?"

(Really?)

"Muchhi. Ab chalo jaldi warna Reyansh bhai saari khaa jaayenge."

(Really. Now come fast else Reyansh bhai will eat all of it.)

He said and dragged a now squealing and bouncy Arohi downstairs. Adi carefully wiped Dhriti's tears and she smiled and kissed her nephew's head.

After a few minutes all of her brothers with her father and tauji came to take their princess downstairs.

Arjun came and hugged her and she fisted his shirt in her tiny fists. Her tauji also patted her head lovingly. They went downstairs and Damini put kala teeka behind her ear.

Her brothers held the phoolon ki chadar over her head and they started walking towards the stage.

There he was standing on the stage like that king he was. Smiling widely at her.

His breath had got stuck when he saw her coming towards him with slow steps. She looked so beautiful. He had imagined her as his bride a thousand times but nothing could have prepared him for this.

He released a wavered breath and smiled widely at her. She got near the stairs and he forwarded his hand.

She looked into his eyes and held his hand. He helped her up looking into her eyes all the while.

Everyone gathered around for the Jaimala.

Just as she was about to make him wear the Jaimala his friends came and picked him up.

"Itni aasani se nhi. Thodi mehnat kariye bhabhi."

(Not so easily. Work for it bhabhi.)

She looked at her brothers pouting and they immediately picked her up bringing her to his level. She smirked at him.

He smiled and bend his head and she put the varmala smiling.

His friends hooted and put him down. Dhriti asked her brothers to put her down.

He made her wear the varmala and kissed her head making everyone clap and hoot.

After the photographs everyone settled on the dinner table. Dhriti was keeping fast and so she did not eat and so Utkarsh too denied.

After dinner Utkarsh was taken to the mandap and Dhriti went to the bride room which was downstairs only and waited for her call.

Some rituals which required only Utkarsh were done and Dhriti was called after half an hour.

The priest started chanting the mantras. Aanchal did the Gathbandhan and then Dhriti's parents came forward to do the Kanyadaan.

This was probably the most difficult rituals. Dhriti was almost on the verge of crying. She looked at Utkarsh who mouthed an 'I love you' making her smile faintly.

They then stoos up for the pheras and with each round they promised each other to be there forever in happiness and even in sad times.

After the pheras she was made to sit on his left.

Then he tied Mangalsutra around her neck and did the Sindurdan. A small pinch fell on her nose making her smile.

They looked at each other with so much love.

She was finally his wife. Legally and religiously.

She was finally Dhriti Utkarsh Sharma.

Dhriti was so overwhelmed. The man she has loved since forever was sitting besides her as her husband and looking at her with so much love.

The priest announced the wedding to be complete and both of them got up to take everyone's blessings.

After that everyone gathered around for the a short ritual called Chhand Sunai. It was a fun, sweet ritual after which came the Juta Chhupai Nek.

Dhriti pouted at her brothers who as usual couldn't extract the shoes from their wives.

And finally came the time Dhriti has been dreading. Bidaai. Her sister brought the plate full of raw rice and her mother forwarded her pallu.

Dhriti threw the rice backwards seven times with silent tears flowing down her eyes. She hugged her mother and sobbed in her arms.

Her father and tauji too hugged her tightly and she cried like a baby that she is.

Her brothers too were crying. They hugged and consoled her and Devesh made her sit in the car. Utkarsh helped her sit inside and then settled beside her.

They started off to their home. Dhriti hid her face in his chest and sniffed.

He kept caressing her back to calm her down and she soon slept. Utkarsh smiled and her and kissed her head.

He couldn't contain his happiness. She was finally his wife. The smudged Sindur on her nose made her look all the more beautiful and cute.

He softly woke her up when they reached. She was about to rub her eyes when he stopped her.

She bit her tongue and smiled at him. He leaned in and pecked her lips and she hit his chest with wide eyes.

They were stopped at the gate by his sisters for the Bar Rukai ritual.

They were then allowed in and then they were taken for another ritual.

Utkarsh had to slide the plates and Dhriti was supposed to pick them up without making much noise. She then sat down for a short puja after which she opened her fast by eating Moong Rice and Utkarsh too had his dinner.

Everyone was tired and so Dhriti was taken to Anju, Utkarsh's mother's room.

She slept as soon as her head touched the pillow. The next day was free and the day after some more rituals would be done and then would be their wedding night.
