Epilogue

She turned to look at him surprised.

“Huh?”

Her eyes were wide with disbelief. He was actually seeing someone?

“I’m actually seeing someone.”

“Oh.”

She whispered and looked ahead, trying to get hold of her emotions. He smiled and continued.

“I didn’t know her for long before I realised how much I loved her. It wasn’t much long after I met her that we started dating.”

Her lower lip quivered. She bit her lip to prevent herself from crying and blinked her eyes rapidly, not letting the tears fall.

“And you know what? Marrying her was the best decision I made.”

She blinked and looked at him surprised. Her eyes were shining with the tears she was trying to control. He smiled and caressed her cheek with the back of his index finger.

He pursed his lips before continuing.

“Kuch time ke liye alag huye the hum. But we are back together now. Because I cannot live without her. For me…she’s been the only one. Ever.”

(We were separated for some time.)

She gazed into his eyes with loved filled ones. He wiped the tear that fell from her eye.

“I loved her back then, I love her now and I will love her. Always and forever.”

Then, he leaned in and whispered in the softest and most sincere tone.

“I love you, meri jaan.”

And with that, he took her lips in a soft kiss. Not caring that their daughter was right in front of them. And she kissed him back.

The confession sewed back her broken heart. Devyansh kissed her passionately. He sucked on her lower lip, nipped at it and gave it a light bite before tugging it softly.

“Papa! Meli mumma ko mat kaato!”

(Don’t bite my mumma!)

Devyanshi came running and hugged her mother as if shielding her from the bite of her father.

Taashi blushed red and held Devyanshi close. Devyansh chuckled and bit his lip.

“Achha? Tumhe kaatu phir?”

(Really? Should I bite you then?)

He said and bit her hand lightly, making her squeal and pull her hand back. Taashi laughed, making Devyanshi giggle.

“Mujhe bhut bhook lagi hai! Mai Devi ki mumma ko khaa jaaunga!”

(I am hungry! I will eat Devi’s mumma!)

He said in a low, pretend monster-like tone and bit Taashi’s cheek before placing a quick peck to her lips, making her laugh.

He then leaned towards Devyanshi and whispered.

“Aur Devi ko bhi!”

(And Devi too!)

And then he bit her little cheeks softly. She shrieked and then giggled when he moved his mouth as if chewing.

The three of them laughed at his antics. He pulled both of them in his arms and kissed both of their heads.

It had been more than six months that Devyansh had filed a case against his mother. They have already had four hearings and today was the fifth and final one.

His mother had accepted her crimes and that made the process much quicker. Devyansh was standing in the court, holding Taashi’s hand tightly.

She couldn’t even understand how difficult it was for him. She had tried to convince him to let go. She didn’t want to see him hurting.

But he was determined. And today was the judgment day.

“Taking into account all the facts and evidence presented, along with the admission by the accused, the court finds the accused guilty of causing abortion without the woman’s consent under Section 89 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita and sentences her to an imprisonment for a term of 7 years. Dismissed.”

A tear fell from Devyansh’s eye but he wiped it away quickly. Taashi squeezed his hand and they moved out.

They sat in the car and Taashi pulled him in a tight embrace. She felt his tears on her shoulder and held him tighter.

“Dev…”

She whispered, trying to get a look at his face, but he only held her tighter and dug his face in her neck.

“Why am I crying? She was a criminal.”

He whispered. Taashi cupped his face and made him look into her eyes.

“She was your mother. It’s ok to cry.”

She kissed his head and wiped his face.

“Let’s go.”

He nodded. Taashi looked around when the car stopped abruptly.

“Yaha kyu ruke hai hum?”

(Why did we stop here?)

He took a deep breath and turned to her.

“I should have asked you before doing this….Taashi…will you marry me again?”

She looked at him with her eyes wide with surprise.

“Wh-what?”

“Marriage registrar ke office hai saamne. Your parents are inside waiting to be witnesses to this. We can get married with proper rituals again if you want but right now, I want to take you back with me. As my wife. I want to go home with my wife and my daughter. So…will you marry me again, meri jaan?”

(We are in front of the marriage registrar’s office.)

Tears shone in her eyes and she nodded. He smiled wide and leaned in to kiss her softly.

“Let’s get married.”

He whispered and they went to the registrar office, with their fingers intertwined with each other’s.

Taashi saw her parents looking at them with a smile. Devyanshi stood beside her mother, holding her hand and waving from the other.

“Mumma! Papa! Nanu nani keh lhe hai ki aapni shaadi hai aaj. Toh abse hum sab saath lahenge?”

(Nanu nani are saying that today is your wedding. So we will live together now?)

Devyansh smiled and picked her up. He tapped her nose and confirmed.

“Haan! Abse mumma papa aur princess, hamesha saath rahenge.”

(Yes! From now, mumma papa and princess will always stay together.)

Taashi was very happy. She couldn’t avert her eyes from her marriage certificate. She was married to the man she loved. Again.

And this time, she wasn’t letting him go. Devyansh saw her looking at the certificate and smiled.

He pulled her in his arms and made her sit between his legs. Her back to his front as he hugged her from behind.

The two were back home and in his room. Taashi was surprised to see everything exactly the way she had left them 5 years back.

Devyansh told her that he hadn’t used the room since after she left.

“It’s real!”

He whispered and she closed her eyes, relishing his warmth. He rubbed her arms and placed soft kisses on her neck.

She closed her eyes and tilted her head to give him more access. He cupped her throat and made her turn her head, taking her lips in a deep kiss.

Before he could turn her around and go further, the door was banged open and Devyanshi came bustling in.

Taashi immediately sat straight and Devyansh cleared his throat. Devyanshi settled against her mother, with her back to her mother’s front.

Devyansh smiled and wrapped his arms around both of them.

“Mumma?”

She hummed and Devyanshi turned curiously.

“Nani nanu ki shaadi hui hai?”

(Nani nanu are married?)

Taashi frowned at the sudden question. Devyansh was more confused.

“Haan. Bhut pehle hui thi.”

(Yes. Long time back.)

Taashi answered and Devyanshi’s eyes sparkled.

“Aapki aul papa ki bhi shaadi hui hai.”

(You and papa are also married.)

She stated and Taashi knew where this was going. Devyansh smiled, still unaware about the direction this conversation was going to take.

“Haan. mumma papa pehle bhi married the. Aaj humne dobara shaadi kri hai.”

(Yes. Mumma papa were married earlier also. Today we remarried.)

Devyanshi giggled and spoke her next sentence with absolute glee, while Devyansh froze in horror.

“Matlab meli bhi shaadi hogi na?!”

(That means I will also get married?!)

“K-k-kya?”

(W-wh-what?)

Devyansh croaked and Taashi sighed.

“Haan baby. Lekin jab tum badi ho jaaogi tab.”

(Yes baby. But after you grow up.)

“Yayyy!”

She clapped excitedly and Devyansh groaned. Taashi burst out laughing.

“I’m not letting her go anywhere. You’re both going to stay with me.”

He grumbled and held them closer. Devyanshi giggled and Taashi laughed at her husband’s antics. There was nothing more that she wanted at the moment.
