Nisha froze. For a complete minute, she didn’t say anything.
“Girlfriend? I think you’re forgetting the ‘ex’ before that. And I’m sure he is not interested in meeting you.”
Sona smirked and looked at Nisha in a challenging way.
“Oh trust me babe! He’s always interested in me. You might be a rebound, a time pass, but he loves me. And he’s going to come back to me the moment I ask him to.”
Nisha didn’t like the confidence with which she spoke.
“Nisha? Who’s there?”
Yash came out with a frown when he saw Nisha still at the door. His frown turned to shock when he saw Sona standing there.
The woman’s cunning smile turned into a soft, almost sad one as she looked at Yash.
“Yash!”
She exclaimed and without another word, threw her arms around his torso, hugging him. Nisha froze. And so did Yash.
She looked away and Yash peeled Sona off himself.
“Back off Sona! Tum yaha kr kya rhi ho? How did you even know I was here?”
(What are you doing here?)
“I saw you at the restaurant a week back. Followed you here. Tabse himmat jod rhi thi tumse milne ki. I miss you so much Yash.”
(I have been trying to gain courage to meet you since then.)
“You stalked me here.”
He declared and she shook her head. She tried cupping his face but he pulled his head back before she could.
“Stop trying to touch me. You’re not my girlfriend anymore.”
“I know I messed up baby. But please listen to me. Please.”
She begged and Yash sighed.
“Fine! 2 minutes! Bolo!”
(Speak!)
“Not here! In private.”
Sona said, motioning towards Nisha through her eyes. Yash’s eyes hardened and he said.
“She’ll know anyway. Just speak!”
“Please Yash! Just 5 minutes. Meri baat sun lo. Please!”
(Listen to me.)
Nisha shook her head subtly. Asking him not to go alone with her. But Yash knew it was important for both of them to get this closure.
“Fine! Chalo!”
Nisha felt her heart break as she saw the two of them leave together. She didn’t wait at his apartment for another moment and rushed back to hers.
On the other hand, Yash and Sona walked around the society park.
“Walk krne nhi aaya hu mai yaha tumhare saath. Just say you wanted to.”
(I am not here to walk with you.)
Sona stopped and turned to him with tears in her eyes.
“I’m sorry, Yash. I'm really sorry. I should have trusted you. I should have listened to you. I miss you so much. I love you so much, Yash.”
He looked at her with a bored look.
“How did you find out the truth?”
“I overheard him speak about it to someone.”
He chuckled humorlessly.
“Toh tumne sach bhi uske muh se hi maana. Mere muh se kaha hua sach nhi laga tumhe.”
(You believed the truth from him only. My words did not feel true to you.)
“I’m so sorry Yash.”
She sobbed. Yash sighed and said.
“I heard your sorry. I accept it. Now leave.”
He started to turn back but she held his hand.
“Yash please mat jaao. Let’s get back together. I love you. And I know you love me too. Please come back, Yash. Sab sahi ho jaayega. Pehle jaise.”
(Yash please don’t go….Everything will be fine. Like before.)
“Nhi Sona. Sab sahi nhi hoga. I will not get back together with a cheater.”
(No Sona. Nothing will be fine.)
Sona looked at him as if he had slapped her.
“What? Isn’t that what you are? A cheater! Do ghante bhi nhi huye the hamari argument ko aur tum chali gyi uske paas. You slept with him. While we were still in a relationship. You cheated on me, Sona.”
(It had not even been two hours to our argument and you went to him.)
“I….I didn’t know, Yash. I’m really sorry. Please…”
She sobbed hard. But her tears didn’t matter to him now.
“You’ll always be a part of my life as a lesson, Sona. You taught me what love meant and what it meant to get heartbroken by someone you trust with your life.”
She looked at him, tears flowing down her eyes. He could see the guilt in them but he had to do what he had to.
“When I met you, I met you, Sona. But when I met Nisha, I met myself. She made me realise how much more worth I am than I gave myself credit for. She stood by me when you should have.”
She lowered her head and sobbed harder. Finally realising that she had truly lost him.
“This is the closure both of us needed. I’ve moved on, Sona. You should do that too. Don’t ever come back to my life. We’re done. For life.”
She looked at him and raised her hand to maybe touch him for the last time. But then, she lowered her hand and gave him a last fleeting look, before turning back and walking away.
Yash sighed and turned around, walking back to his home. His Nisha.
He entered his apartment but frowned seeing it empty. He immediately went to her apartment and rang the doorbell.
When she didn’t answer the door, he used the passkey and entered inside only to see her sitting on the living room couch right in front of him.
“Why did you not answer the door?”
She had her arms crossed as she looked at him with accusations in her eyes.
“I asked you not to leave with her. And yet you did.”
He slumped beside her, his thighs touching hers.
“It was needed, Nisha. Both of us needed that conversation. I’m sorry, I didn’t listen to you, but it was needed.”
She gulped and got quiet. Her mind swirled with Sona’s confident words. About getting Yash back.
“So…you’re getting back with her now.”
