Swaraa was getting bored. Her father had dragged her into another business party. She looked around in search for her elder sister, who suddenly seemed to have disappeared.
“Ye di bhi na yaar! Bola tha inhe saath rehne. Pata nhi kaha chali gyi.”
(My sister, God! I told her to stay with me. God knows where she vanished.)
She mumbled to herself and walked around, hoisting her gown a little to walk freely.
Her entire being froze when she saw the face she dreaded. Her psychotic ex. He was obsessed with her after their breakup.
Swaraa had dated Kartik for a short while. She hadn’t been really interested in him but he seemed like a nice guy and she thought to give him a chance when he insisted too much.
Not even a week into their relationship and she realised why it was a bad decision. Kartik was highly controlling and obsessive.
He would call her every hour and demand she share her location, send live pictures with time stamps so that he was sure she was in the office.
He would ask her to spend all her free time only with him, not paying attention to any of her family and friends.
Swaraa tried to adjust and understand him but when his behavior only worsened she decided to call it quits.
And not even three weeks into their relationship she broke up with him. But since then, he had been following her to every public event she went to.
He stalked her social media even when she’d blocked him from everywhere. She was a fashion designer and couldn’t make her ID private and that was the biggest issue.
The last time he cornered her, she had panicked seeing his obsessive behavior and blurted out that she had a boyfriend.
He had obviously not believed her and laughed it off. That day, she got lucky because he had to leave. But it would not be the same every time. She had to find a permanent solution.
She looked around for her family. Why did everyone seem to vanish suddenly?
Ok! She needed to calm down. She was panicking. She looked around frantically. Kartik was getting closer. She made a run towards the crowd and her eyes fell on a man.
He was standing with some other men, the tallest among them all. Something about him told Swaraa that he could help her.
She was so scared that without wasting another second, she walked towards that man. All of the men standing with him turned to her, seeing the sudden interruption.
“Hi. I'm sorry for interrupting but…I need your help.”
The man looked at her. For a moment, he didn’t say anything, but he must have noticed the urgency in her expressions because he nodded and turned back to the other men with a polite smile.
“Excuse me for a moment, gentlemen!”
He stepped aside and made way for Swaraa to guide him. She took him to a quieter corner and looked back to see if Kartik had followed. Thankfully, he hadn’t.
“Would you mind telling me why we’re here?”
Swaraa looked at him and bit her lip, not knowing how to frame her weird request.
“It might sound very stupid but…I need you to pretend to be my boyfriend for this evening.”
The man’s eyes widened for a second, clearly not expecting that, before he raised his eyebrow in question.
“Excuse me?”
Swaraa closed her eyes and explained to him the situation. The man listened calmly and waited for her to finish.
She took a deep breath after narrating the story and looked at his expression. His face was neutral.
“So you want me to pretend to be your boyfriend for this evening so that you can get rid of your psycho ex?”
“That sums it up. Yes.”
He stared at her, as if trying to read her. Swaraa squirmed under his gaze. It wasn’t uncomfortable but seemed calculative.
“You know what…just…just forget it. I don’t know why I did that. Mai bas usko yaha dekh kr darr gyi thi. He might not even be here for me and I-”
(I just got scared seeing him here.)
“Swaraa!”
She froze. He was here. Right behind her. The man seemed to notice the sudden change in her body language.
It was clear that she was scared. Swaraa slowly turned and came face to face with the crazy man. He had a wide smile on his face.
Kartik took a step forward, making Swaraa take one back instinctively. She felt a hand slip around her waist and pull her beside her.
“Who’s that, love?”
Both Swaraa and Kartik’s eyes snapped to him. Swaraa sighed in relief that he was playing along. Kartik looked at him with angry eyes and said.
“Oh! A boyfriend! Didn’t she tell you about me? Her first love.”
Swaraa cringed at his words and instinctively took a step behind the man when Kartik stepped forward.
The man took the lead and blocked Kartik’s way.
“First love? More like that crazy motherfucking psycho who refuses to leave my woman alone.”
Swaraa looked at the man’s back with wide eyes. Ok! That was hot. The man walked ahead, making Kartik backwalk.
Swaraa stayed behind and saw the man whisper something to Kartik. She couldn’t hear but she could feel that whatever he said scared Kartik.
“If I ever see you around her again…I’ll destroy your existence.”
The man had threatened. Kartik gulped at his dangerous tone and stuttered.
“H-hai kaun tu?”
(Wh-who are you?)
“I’m sure you've heard the name of Rajvansh's.”
Kartik’s eyes widened in recognition and he quickly scurried away. The man walked back to Swaraa and said.
“He won’t disturb you again. You can enjoy the party. And in case wo phir bhi kuch kahe….I’m still here.”
(And in case he says something again…I’m still here.)
“Thank you so much.”
Swaraa didn’t know how to pay him back. He gave her a microscopic smile, before moving back.
“Hey wait!”
She yelled, making him stop and turn.
“Aapka naam?”
(Your name?)
The man smirked before answering.
“Shaurya Rajvansh.”
Swaraa’s eyes widened in surprise. Rajvansh was not a name that went unheard in the business world. They practically had their hands on every industry in the country.
“Did I just ask the first heir of Rajvansh Group to be my pretend boyfriend?”
