Jay came home from work and slumped on his bed. Work was exhausting. Especially when you are still learning things as a new CEO of an already established company.
People think things are easy when you get it all established. But even an established venture takes effort to run and flourish.
Jay felt the exhaustion more deeply. The business reminded him of his tauji, his father’s elder brother. His tauji never had any kids of his own. His taiji couldn’t conceive and his grandmother was a vicious lady. She wanted his tauji to remarry for a baby.
But the man was such a pure soul. He denied and stated that it would mean disrespecting his wife and he loved her too much to do that to her. He declared that he would remain childless but not bear any child from another woman.
And when Jay was born, his taiji and tauji loved him like their own. Jay was more attached to them than his own parents. Such was the amount of love and care they bestowed upon him. His tauji was his role model and he looked up to him from the beginning.
Since his tauji never had any kids of his own, and always considered Jay as his own child, he had declared on Jay’s birth itself that if he wanted after growing up, he would inherit his business.
And Jay had developed a keen interest in business. He had always dreamt of making his tauji proud. But before he could, an unfortunate accident snatched his father figure from him. Jay was broken. He couldn’t focus on anything for months. Kept himself locked up in his room all day.
Until his taiji brought him out and asked him to fulfill his tauji’s dream. His tauji had wanted to see Jay take his business to new heights.
It has been 5 years since and Jay was unstoppable. Every year, he achieved new milestones. His tauji always celebrated the company’s anniversary on a grand level. After his death, there was no celebration anymore.
Each year, on the company’s anniversary, Jay would sit in his study, in front of his tauji’s huge portrait and talked to him the entire day, telling him about the company’s success and how he was working towards his dream.
His mother and taiji, Surbhi and Anita, were starting to get worried. Jay was turning 29 this years and all he cared about was his work. He came home late, went to work early and had no social life other than business meetings and business parties.
“Iss ladke ke liye hume hi ladki dekhni padegi Surbhi! Jaanti ho kal kya kehta hai?! Maine puchha koi girlfriend wagerah hai toh bta de, waha baat kr lenge. Kehta hai, taiji, mujhe shaadi nhi krni. Mujhe koi interest nhi hai inn sab cheezon mai. Maine bola kya matlab interest nhi hai aur shaadi nhi krni? Kehta hai biwi aayegi toh kaam se dhyan batega na, aur mai tauji ke sapne ke beech kisi ko nhi aane dena chahta.”
(We will have to look for a girl for this boy, Surbhi! You know what he says?! I asked if him to tell me if he has any girlfriend, so we can talk with her family. He says, taiji, I don’t want to get married. I don’t have any interest in all this. I asked him what did he mean by not interested and doesn’t want to marry? He says that if wife comes, he will be distracted from work, and he doesn’t want to let anything come between tauji’s dream.)
Anita spoke and Surbhi sighed. She knew her son loved his tauji a lot but this! This was pure madness. He had stopped living for himself.
“Aap sahi keh rhi hai bhabhi. Ab hume hi rishte dekhne padenge. Nhi toh ye toh brahmachari ban kr baith jaayega. Lekin ye maanega agar humne rishta dhund bhi lia toh?”
(You are right Bhabhi. Now we only have to look for alliances. Otherwise, he will become a celibate. But will he agree even if we find an alliance?)
“Wo mujhpr chhod do. Mana toh mai lungi, lekin pehle hum achha rishta toh dhunde. Mai baat chalwati hu iski. Tum bhi dekho apne waha baat chalwao.”
(Leave that to me. I will convince him, but before that we should have a good alliance. I will talk about him. You also do the same.)
The women nodded in agreement and immediately got to work. Jay entered the living room and looked at the two blissfully unaware of the conspiracy they just framed against him.
“Kya chal rha hai ladies?”
(What is happening ladies?)
They looked at him in sync and then at each other. Jay frowned looking at the two who seemed to have a silent conversation with their eyes. They decided not to tell him yet and smiled too sweetly at him.
“Kuch nhi, bas roz marra ke kaam.”
(Nothing, just routine work.)
They spoke together making Jay blink in surprise. He could sense something fishy but who could ever get something out of women when they wanted to be secretive.
Jay was in his cabin going through the details of the recent project that was mailed to him. He found something odd and frowned. Picking up his intercom, he called his secretary’s desk.
“Aniket, find me who prepared the project details for the Nirvana Project. And ask that person to see me in my cabin. Now!”
With that he disconnected the call. The clause was a very new and interesting one. He wanted to know what it meant and how it was important to them.
15 minutes later, there was a knock on his cabin door. He allowed the person in. Raising his head from the desktop, he looked at the person who entered.
It was a woman who looked a little bit younger than him. Almost around his age.
“You’re the one who prepared the details of the Nirvana Project?”
Jay asked and the woman nodded. He hummed and motioned towards the seat indicating her to sit. She took the seat and looked at him nervously.
“Is something wrong sir? I’ll revise it ASAP.”
Jay raised an eyebrow and said.
“Not wrong. Just something new. Could you explain why you put this clause here and how exactly it is helpful to us?”
He turned the screen towards her and she followed his line of sight. She raised her eyebrows in understanding and then went on to explain what exactly the clause was used for.
Jay was impressed.
“You’ve joined recently?”
“Yes sir, just a month back.”
“What’s your name?”
“Neelam Verma.”
“Good job, Ms. Verma. You may leave.”
Neelam was extremely happy the entire day. She was praised by the boss himself. And she had always heard that he was very strict when it came to work.
She was terrified when she was informed that he wanted to see her in his cabin. The first thought that came to her mind was that she had done something wrong and he was going to fire her.
Neelam was chirping with happiness the entire day. She even narrated the entire incident to her parents who praised her and motivated her to always keep doing good.
