The second day after their marriage were the remaining rituals. Everything went fine but then came the time Vanisha was dreading. Night. Their wedding night. Ved was driving them back home from her maternal home after her pag phera ritual. She was nervously fidgeting with her fingers.
Ved could sense her nervousness but he knew anything he would say would only make her even more nervous thinking that he could read her thoughts. So he kept quiet. As soon as they reached home, she all but ran to the room she had been sleeping in since two days. It was her mother-in-law’s.
“Arre beta! Aa gye tum log. Kaisa raha sab?”
“Sab achha hua mummy. Par mai thak gyi bhut.”
Her mother-in-law smiled naughtily thinking it was a code word and teased.
“Haan haan bilkul. Jaao jaao aaram kro apne kamre mai ab.”
Vanisha looked at her surprised.
“Ji?”
Was she not supposed to sleep here? Then her mind worked and she realised that she was supposed to share a room with her husband now. Ofcourse, how could she forget the reason she was running because of at the first place?
“J-ji! G-good night.”
And with that she turned to walk into her new room. She quickly ran towards the room wanting to get into bed before Ved made an entrance. But to her sheer luck, as soon as she opened the door and sighed in relief against it with her forehead resting against it and her back to the rest of the room, she heard a deep whisper behind her.
“Done running?”
She gasped and turned only to realise her mistake. He was too close. His thumb graced her cheek softly and she felt herself melt under his touch. Her eyes widened when he started leaning in and she placed a hand on his chest softly holding him in place.
He looked at her naughtily and continued to lean in making her gulp. But she was surprised when his lips landed on her forehead.
“Breathe! Nothing’s going to happen until you’re ready.”
And just like that, she felt like she could breathe again. He made space for her to walk inside and that’s when she noticed the condition of the room. A deep red hue covered her face because of the sensual vibes the room emitted.
“I’ll clear this up. Thak gyi hogi tum.”
Ved said and moved to clear the bed for them to lay down. She helped him while trying to ease the awkwardness. She was actually very tired and didn’t even realise when she fell asleep while he looked at her for some time before pulling her into his arms and cuddling her to sleep.
When Vanisha woke up next, Ved wasn’t next to her. She looked at the time and realised that she had slept in. She had taken off from the office but that didn’t mean she could sleep in till so late. It was 9 am and too late according to her mother even at her home. And she should be waking up early in her marital home.
She quickly showered and got ready in a pretty gradient green saree and rushed out.
“Sorry! Meri nind nhi khuli.”
She apologized seeing her mother-in-law sitting with some other ladies of her age. Probably her friends.
“Arre koi baat nhi beta! Hota hai aksar shaadi ki shuruwaat mai. Nind der se khulti hai.”
The ladies teased and Vanisha lowered her head in embarrassment knowing what they were thinking. As if it wasn’t enough, Ved walked out of Vedant’s room along with him.
“Ved beta! Apni biwi ko thoda rest krne dia kr. Itna thak gyi bechari ki nind time se nhi khuli.”
Vedant snickered and made a teasing sound while Ved looked at the ladies with a shocked expression. His neck and ears turned red in embarrassment. So much teasing and nothing had even happened. What would they do if something had really happened.
“I-ummm… excuse me.”
He rushed back to his room meanwhile Vedant joined the ladies enjoying the gossip that was going on.
“Aaj toh pehli rasoi hogi na Naina? Kya bana rhi hai tumhari bahu?”
One of the ladies asked and both Vedant and Vanisha sat straight in attention. They looked at each other. One in worry and the other in amusement. Why? Because Vanisha couldn’t cook to save her life.
“Pehli rasoi?”
Vanisha whispered in horror but her mother-in-law heard.
“Arre mere dimag se hi nikal gaya tha. Lekin khaana toh sab bana hua hai. Plus mai apni beti se akele itna kaam nhi krwati.”
Naina said making Vanisha slump in relief.
“Arre lekin meetha toh bana hi skti hai.”
Naina looked at Vanisha as if asking if she should deny or could she make it. Before she could, Vedant got up and announced.
“Arre bilkul mausi! Aapko nhi pata lekin Vani na bhut tasty halwa banati hai. Hai na Vani?”
He teased and grinned wide when she glared at him. She had no option but to nod while smiling sweetly.
She moved towards the kitchen and called him.
“Zara mujhe saaman bta dio kitchen mai kaha rakha hai.”
Vedant gulped. He knew he was gone. She was going to hit him the moment she got him alone. He cautiously followed her and he was right.
A punch came on his back and then a slap on his head.
“Pagal! Gadhe! Chonch band nhi rakhi jaati tujhse. Kaunsa halwa khaa lia tune mere haath ka? Ullu kahi ka.”
He laughed and then fished out his phone.
“Arre worry not! Youtube hai na! Sab ho jaayega. Aur phir soch tera impression kya amazing padega sab pr.”
She nodded and he searched for a good recipe video. Ved was looking for his wife when he found both her and his troublemaker brother absent. He entered the kitchen and saw both of their heads bent into the phone looking at something with rapt attention.
“Kya ho raha hai?”
He asked making them both jump and hit their heads against each other. They rubbed their heads and looked at Ved with a mirrored annoyed expression. Ved raised his eyebrow and Vedant grinned as if realising something.
“Bhaiya! You’re a saviour! Aapki biwi ko halwa banane ka task mila hai. But she doesn’t know shit about cooking. Help her!”
He said and gave Ved a hard push. Ved wasn’t expecting it and stumbled which caused him to bang into Vanisha.
“Oops!”
Vedant giggled like a schoolgirl. Ved cleared his throat while mentally thanking his brother.
