“How can you just listen to what she is saying to me? Say something Raghav!”
“Why would I? She's right. I'm married to her. And I've made it clear, I don't want anything to do with you. I love my wife. And I'm not divorcing her. We went through a rough phase but I know we'll come out of it stronger than before.”
He gazed into Maithili's eyes and she smiled, clutching his hand as a sign that he was correct.
“And Namita. Don't just come to our place again. My wife doesn't like it.”
As Namita stormed out of their house, Raghav turned to Maithili.
“I didn't know she'd come here.”
“I know. I trust you.”
She did. And she should have trusted him back then too. The visible relief on his face when she said those three words made her heart ache. If he had hurt her then she too hurt him with that accusation.
“Raghav…I am sorry about that…I shouldn't have said that. I trusted you then too. But shayad wo time hi aisa tha. Sab kuch galat ho raha tha.”
He caressed her cheek and smiled.
“It's ok. I understand. Both of us made some mistakes. But we're learning and correcting it. And that's what matters, yeah?”
She nodded and he kissed her forehead. She wanted to hug him tight and melt in his arms. But something stopped her.
She was still hurt at the fact that he just accepted the divorce without any efforts. He didn't try to stop her or make her say otherwise. He agreed with it and even went ahead to get the divorce papers made and filed.
Maithili woke up to the sound of loud music. She rubbed her eyes and walked to the living room from where the sound was coming.
Raghav stood there grinning, still wearing his pajamas. She saw a new Alexa kept on the table beside him. His phone in his hand.
As soon as he saw her he started dancing. His own twisted hook step. It always made her laugh and she did laugh this time too.
He danced his way towards her and held her hand, twirling her around before going for a dip.
None of them realised that he pecked her lips before pulling her up again and they continued dancing. The sound of loud music, Maithili's giggles and Raghav's laughter filled their house.
The song ends and they slump on the couch with her still snuggled against him.
“It was fun!”
“I know right. Kitne time baad aise randomly dance kia humne. Reminded me of our college life and early married life.”
Her smile fell, remembering their marriage recently. But she shook the thought and smiled while resting her head against his shoulder.
Raghav couldn't help but think about it. Three more months were left for the second hearing. The hearing which will decide the fate of their marriage.
Maithili suddenly realised that he had pecked her lips while dancing and blushed. Why was she blushing? They had done a lot more than just pecking each other's lips but she was blushing like he was her crush who had kissed her for the first time.
Maybe it had been too long since they were intimate together. And she missed him and his touch terribly. But she was hesitant in saying it to him. They were still working on it. She would look desperate if she said something like that so randomly.
Maithili and Raghav were exploring their terrace.
“Wow! Chaar mahine se hum yaha hai aur aaj pehli baar chhat pr aa rhe hai.”
Raghav remarked and Maithili chuckled. The weather was too good and she wanted to go out for a stroll. But it was close to midnight and Raghav said it wasn't safe to go down. So they decided to go to the terrace instead.
Maithili sighed in content and opened her arms wide. She closed her eyes and smiled.
“This feels so good. Kitna pyaara mausam hai na?”
He nodded absentmindedly. She looked so pretty at the moment that he couldn't think of anything else. How did he hurt her so much? She was made to be treasured. Never again! He promised himself. He wouldn't ever give her a chance to be upset with him.
She saw him looking at her with a smile and blushed, tucking her hair behind her ear.
“Kya?”
“Kya?”
He questioned back and she scrunched her nose. He loved when she did that.
“Kya dekh rhe ho?”
“Apni biwi ko. Any problem?”
Ok. Here she goes blushing again. She looked trying to hide her smile and his smile widened. He was happy that things were getting better between them. He still felt that something bothered her though. She was still a little detached.
They were casually strolling around the terrace with Maithili gazing at the citylights and Raghav gazing at her. Their hands intertwined with each other.
The weather changed suddenly and it started to rain. Raghav started moving towards the door to go back home while still holding her hand but stopped feeling her restraint.
He looked at her and frowned. Their clothes now stuck to their bodies due to the heavy rain.
“Let's stay for some time.”
She whispered and gave his hand a small tug to pull him back. He chuckled and went along with it. His hands now on her waist as he looked at her with a sparkle in his eyes.
“We’re going to get soaked!"
He said with a chuckle and she giggled
"Who cares? It’s just water. Kitne time baad baarish enjoy krne ko mili hai. Why waste it?”
“Not a bad idea at all.”
He said and leaned in before planting a kiss on her cheek making her giggle like a little girl.
There must be something in the air which made her so giddy. Or maybe it was just the feeling of being in his arms after such a long time.
“I'm so sorry for hurting you. I've been such an idiot not to see your pain Mithu. Please maaf kr de na yaar. I want my Mithu, my sukoon back.”
He pleaded and she felt her smile slowly slip.
