Anshika was in her final year of MBA. She's just turned 23 and her birthday was celebrated on a grand level because well, her father didn't like anything mediocre.
Her father was one of the biggest businessmen of Delhi and also very money minded. Anshika had grown up in an environment where only money was given importance. And she grew up craving love.
Her father loved her because she was his daughter. Not because he actually loved her or cared about her. Her mother did whatever her father asked. And now, the two were dancing on her head to get a good internship on her own merits because she had indirectly challenged her father that she could do so and wouldn't need his help or contacts.
This, her father had taken on his ego and was adamant to prove that she couldn't do anything without her father's ‘precious’ contacts.
And this was also the reason she was waiting outside the staff room for 10 minutes. It was lunch break and she wanted to talk to the only professor whom she knew could help her.
Ms. Kanika Mittal was the sweetest professor you could come across in the whole Business Department. She also happened to be Anshika’s mentor. And so Anshika was here to seek guidance on how she should approach the companies.
“Yes bache! Bolo kya baat hai?”
Ms. Kanika came out of the staff room and Anshika greeted her.
“Good afternoon mam. Mam aapki help chahiye thi. I'm very confused about where I should do my final year internship.”
She said and Ms. Kanika nodded.
“Kuch socha hai? Kya karne ka mann hai specifically? Koi options nikale hai? Your father is also a businessman na? Did you talk to him about this? He must also have contacts right?”
“Haan mam. Papa ke contacts hai but I don't want to involve him. I want to get this internship on my own merits. Not because papa's name is imvolved. Isliye aapke paas aayi thi ki agar aap kuch suggest krdo.”
Ms. Kanika went in thought and hummed.
“Chalo I'll look into it. Send me a mail on my id telling me about your preferred department and I'll revert.”
“Thank you so much mam.”
“No problem bache. Aur kuch?”
“No mam. Bas yahi tha.”
“Chalo okay. All the best.”
“Thank you mam.”
Anshika had sent a mail that very day after she thought about all the preferred areas she would like to work at and attached her CV. As promised, Ms. Kanika had replied to her the next evening, asking her to meet her in college the next day.
“Adi! Beta ek baar dekh toh le. She's a smart girl. Hardworking hai. Dedicated hai. And she really wants to do this.”
Ms. Kanika was trying to coax her son into looking at Anshika's CV. Her son worked in a bog corporation at a good post. He was the college gold medalist and was recruited by the company during the campus interview rounds.
“Nhi maa! You know how I feel about these richie rich kids!”
He said, giving her a stern look. His mother knew how his college girlfriend, the one he was very serious about, had broken his heart. She too belonged to a very rich family and although he was surprised why she would date him, he hadn't questioned it because be genuinely liked her.
He was so serious about her that he had even decided to propose to her after they graduated. But he saw her true colors before that. She was just using him for her own benefit because he was crazy after her and would do her projects and assignments one her asking just once.
“Baby! You know na mujhe ye sab samajh nhi aata. Please help me na!”
She would say and instead of taking his help, she let him do the entire thing. He finally realised her ploy in their final year when he saw her kissing one of the boys who also belonged to the same social status as her.
And when he confronted her, she had the audacity to laugh at him.
“Tumhe seriously laga hamara koi future hai? Just look at you and look at me Aditya! I would never marry you! We dated, had our fun aur ab college khatam toh tum apne raaste aur mai apne.”
Fun? What fun was she talking about? The fun where she used him for doing her work? Or the fun where she broke his heart?
“Besides tum 21st century mai bhi agar aise behave kroge ki ye 50s ka zamana hai toh koi ladki nhi milegi. I mean dude! You didn't even let me kiss you!”
“Because we were always in college! You wanted to do kiss you in college premises? Mere saath bahar kabhi nhi gyi tum! You always had your excuses ready! And now I know why!”
“Bahar? Kaha le kar jaate? Thele pr?”
She laughed and Aditya had never hated someone more than he hated her at the moment. Just because her father had money didn't mean she disrespected other people.
“Tum waha le jaane layak bhi nhi ho. I'm so happy I got to know your true colors soon. Would have regretted wasting any more time on someone who doesn't deserve it.”
He said and left the scene leaving the girl gaping at her insult.
That was the last he ever talked to her and then college was over. He hadn't had contact with her ever since but the betrayal was still fresh.
And the way she belittled him made him loathe these richie rich kids whose fathers have fountains of money.
“Arre toh date thodi na krna hai usse. She is asking for an internship. She is a promising child. Ek baar CV dekh toh le.”
“Apne papa ke paas kyu nhi jaa rhi aapki ye hardworking student?”
“Agar usne specially bola hai ki wo khudse kuch krna chahti hai toh isme bhi problem hai ab? Tu ye bata tu consider krega ya nhi?”
He didn't say anything and she sighed.
