She got down at the exact location the clip was from and looked around. She saw Prakhar standing at a distance from her. He was lost in his phone. Did he go to his house first and change his clothes before coming here?
She dismissed the thought and ran towards him.
“Sir? Prakhar sir?”
She called but maybe he didn't listen because he showed no reaction. When she reached close enough to touch him, she put her hand on his arm making him turn and look at her in confusion.
“Did you find him?”
“Find whom?”
He asked and she made a worried face. Did he not find his brother?
“Your brother sir! We have to find him. I know that he was seen here. Maine bhi clip dekhi wo. Maybe he's still in his hideout. It's too early in the morning. But we have to find him sir. We cannot let him commit another murder. Agar murderer ka pata lagane ke baad hum usse rok nhi paaye toh everything will go into waste sir.”
She said in one go and looked at him worried. There was something in his gaze today. Something different. Something she hadn't seen before.
“I've planted my men here. Koi bhi movement direct report hogi and we'll catch him. Don't worry. He won't be able to escape.”
Prakhar answered and Avantika nodded, sighing with relief.
“You're going home?”
He asked and she shook her head.
“I'll just go back to the office. What if I go back home and we catch hold of Prashant, mai itni jaldi ghar se nhi aa paaungi. Office is closer.”
He nodded and said.
“I'll go with you.”
She nodded and they moved towards his car when she remembered something.
“Sir aapki car?”
“Wo…it stopped in between toh thik krne ke liye di hai.”
She nodded again and they took their seats in her car. Avantika drove towards the office. All this while she felt Prakhar's gaze on her but this time something felt amiss.
Avantika opened the main door of the building. They were the only ones there because it was too early in the morning.
Just as they reached the main floor, Prakhar stopped her.
“Achha listen, wo dead bodies yahi pr hai na?”
She turned to look at him with a frown.
“Haan sir.”
“I'd like to have a look.”
She was shocked and asked.
“But sir, ab kyu?”
“Just want to confirm something.”
She nodded. She was still confused about why and what he would want to do with the dead bodies suddenly. They entered the lab. The floor looked even more eerie in the wee hours of the morning.
She opened the morgue and they entered.
“Cells number 2,3,4 and 5 sir.”
She stepped back and let him do the work. He stepped forward, in front of her and that's when her gaze fell on something unusual.
“Sir? Ye chot kaise lagi?”
She asked seeing the scar on his neck. Prakhar touched the scar with his right hand and that's when she saw something that made her blood run cold.
His sleeve rolled up and the tattoo peeked out. Prashant! She had brought the killer with her, assuming him to be Prakhar.
And he knew that she knew who the killer was.
Avantika felt goosebumps on her body but she composed herself. She managed to conceal the flinch when Prashant addressed her.
“A cat scratched me. Achha listen, I think I forgot my phone outside, can you get it for me?”
“Y-yes sir.”
She said and rushed out. Before leaving the morgue she turned to look at him and saw him smirking evilly while looking at the body parts of the victims. Bile rose in her stomach and she made a run towards the washroom.
She locked herself and panted heavily. Tears ran down her eyes. She was scared. Too scared.
She fished out her phone and called Prakhar's number with shaking hands. She prayed to God that he picks it up in the first ring.
“Sir! Prakhar sir!”
She whisper cried and Prakhar's senses got alert. He was in the area where Prashant was spotted in the video.
“Avantika? Kya hua? Thik ho tum?”
“Sir! He's here! He's at the office! He is posing as you sir. Mujhe bhut darr lag raha hai. Please come fast!”
She cried and he immediately started driving towards the office. It was hardly a half an hour drive. But a lot could happen in half an hour.
Avantika flinched hard when there was knock on the washroom door. She dropped her phone on the floor and looked at the door scared.
Quickly wiping her tears and picking up her phone, she moved out. Maybe if she pretended that she didn't know anything, he'd also play along and she could buy herself and Prakhar some time.
“Sir?”
“My phone?”
He asked and she smiled awkwardly.
“Wo sorry sir, I had to use the washroom so I didn't look. Mai abhi dhund deti hu.”
He smiled too and they moved towards the table. She passed him his phone and he smiled, taking it from her and started doing something.
Seeing him distracted, she started looking for a scalpel to keep it handy in case she needed it.
She had just clutched the scalpel when he looked up making her freeze with her hands behind her back.
“What happened?”
He asked with a sickening smile and she shook her head, mentally praying for Prakhar to come fast.
“N-nothing sir!”
He took a step closer and she shrunk back into the counter.
“You know, you think you were quiet, but you don't know I have super hearing. I can hear what people whisper like they're yelling.”
All the color drained from her face and he took another step closer.
“I-I don't understand what you mean sir.”
“How long will it take my dear brother to reach here and save you?”
She clutched the scalpel tightly and when he took another step closer, she went straight for his neck but seems like he was expecting something like that because he held her hand and twisted it making her cry and the scalpel drop from her hands.
She felt a prick in her neck and the next moment everything started swaying and soon it went black.
