“Umm…sir? Aapko bhut der tak kaam hai kya?”

Avantika approached him. They were deciding to leave for home and she didn't want him to stay back as he could tamper with whatever evidence they had.

“Yeah! I was just going through the reports again. To see ki kuch miss out toh nhi hua. I mean how is it possible that there's not one single clue in this case.”

“Sir aap files ghar le jaao. We're closing down the office. And it's quite late also.”

She said and he smiled.

“Its fine. You can leave the keys here. Mai lock krke nikal jaaunga as soon as I finish with all these.”

“You can take these files home sir. Waise bhi family wait kr rhi hogi na aapki.”

As soon as she said this, a mischievous smile formed on his face.

“Are you trying to get to know whether I'm married?”

“What! No! I mean no sir, not at all. I genuinely meant it.”

He chuckled at her reaction and got up, making her take a step back and look up at him nervously.

“I don't have a family Avantika. No one's waiting for me.”

She looked confused. What about his brother? Did they not live together? Seeing her confused expression he clarified.

“My parents died when I was 10. And I'm not married yet. So I have no one waiting for me at home.”

“What about your brother?”

Prakhar looked surprised and said.

“I haven't talked to him in like 14 years now. The moment I joined the forces, we lost contact. I don't know where he is.”

Maybe that's why he got down to his psycho tendencies. Being the youngest and all alone.

“It must be difficult right? Being the youngest of the house and suddenly all the people you called your family leave. I'm sorry sir.”

“Nah! Ab toh aadat ho gyi.”

He said with a nonchalant wave of hand and smiled his dimpled smile. Oh how she wished he wasn't the killer!

“How much older is your brother to you?”

She asked and he frowned.

“Sorry what?”

“Your brother? How old is he than you?”

He looked at her stunned for a moment and then spoke.

“Who told you he's older than me?”

“Wo aapko contact krne se pehle I read your profile. Usme likha tha that you have an elder brother.”

Prakhar chuckled and shook his head.

“He's not older than me. Well, maybe about a minute or so. We're twins!”

Avantika kept looking at her with a dumbfounded expression.

“I'm sorry what?”

“We're twins. We're the same age.”

He repeated with a smile and the bells in her mind started ringing.

“Monozygotic twins?”

She asked and he frowned.

“Huh?”

“Identical twins?”

She used the common term and he nodded.

“Yeah!”

She gasped and banged the table in excitement making Prakhar looked at her with a frown.

“Ofcourse! It all makes sense now! The DNA and the fingerprint, the location and the murder, the skin cells and the scar. It all makes sense!”

She said loudly and he looked at her weirdly.

“Well, good that it makes sense to you because none of what you said made sense to me.”

He said and but she rushed off somewhere making him follow her.

“Khushal sir!”

She called his name trying to search for the man. Prakhar ran behind her calling her name.

“Avantika! Where are you running? Hua kya hai?”

He asked catching up easily and walking beside her.

She found Khushal and Aastha in the conference room.

“Sir! I know why the DNA and the fingerprints didn't match!”

She announced as soon as she saw them. They looked at her and then at the frowning Prakhar behind her. Aastha motioned from her eyes to keep quiet but Avantika was too excited.

“What DNA?”

Prakhar asked.

“The DNA we found at the 1st and 2nd crime scenes!”

She said in excitement and he looked at her with a raised eyebrow.

“We found some DNA on those sites? This information was not there in the reports you gave me.”

“Exactly Avantika! Kya bakwaas kr rhi ho.”

Khushal said with gritted teeth warning her to stop. Avantika made Prakhar sit before her and told him the entire story of why they approached him actually while Khushal and Aastha sat stumped at her actions.

What was she doing? Disclosing the plan to the killer? Why?

“So you think that I'm the killer. And you people were keeping an eye on me?”

He asked calmly and Avantika nodded slowly.

“But now I know you are not the killer.”

She said making Khushal and Aastha look at her confused and Prakhar raise an eyebrow at her.

“And why is that?”

“Because you have a twin!”

She said and he looked at her stunned not expecting this to be the reason.

“You think I'm not a killer because I have a twin? And how is that?”

She nodded. She was too happy and excited to finally figure out the truth.

“I'll tell you sir. You and your brother are monozygotic twins. Monozygotic twins are formed from one egg which is broken into two after it fertilises. Hence the term Mono Zygotic. And for the reason ki dono babies ek hi egg and sperm se bante hai, their DNA structure is exactly same.”

She said and waited for the three to grasp and process what she meant.

“That means me and my brother share the same DNA.”

Prakhar said and Avantika nodded.

“Yes! And that is the reason the DNA we found on the crime scene matched yours but the fingerprints didn't because even monozygotic twins do not have the same fingerprints. And that is why you don't have the scar that the killer should have because of the fourth victim scratching him because you're not the killer sir, it's -”

She stopped short, realising what she was rambling in her excitement. Prakhar's expression had gone blank. She was too happy to find the killer that she forget who he was to Prakhar.

“Because it's my brother.”

Prakhar completed for her and met her gaze. She nodded slowly reading the hurt and anger in his eyes.
