“Sanskriti!”
Abhimanyu called from for his wife while tying his cufflinks.
“Ji?”
She peeked out from the walk-in-closet and he frowned at her.
“Mera wallet kaha rakhti ho yaar tum?”
Sanskriti twisted her lip and narrowed her eyes at her husband. She walked towards him and bend down to retrieve his wallet from the top drawer of the nightstand.
“Mai nhi rakhti. Aap rakhte hai har roz issi jagah pr.”
She handed the said item to him and he smiled sheepishly. She started to go back when he held her wrist and pulled her back.
“I'm so happy we're giving this a chance.”
He whispered and she blushed. They have been married for over an year now.
Abhimanya and Sanskriti did not have a love marriage. Neither was it an arranged one. It was what you could call a business merger. A contract.
Sanskriti belonged to a rich and influential family and was married into an even richer and influential one.
But she knew that materialistic things was what she'll get out of her marriage and from her husband. She knew she couldn't expect love or respect. That's how marriages in their world worked.
But then, things between her and her husband started changing slowly. They started opening up to each other. Abhimanyu realised that she wasn't just after his money and that he could share things with her.
And a few weeks back, the couple decided to give their marriage a true chance.
“Me too!”
She whispered and lowered her eyes not being able to keep the eye contact.
“Will you go on a date with me tonight?”
He asked and she looked at him surprised.
“Date? Ok!”
He kissed her head and she kept her cheek against his chest. Sanskriti was too happy the whole day. She was getting ready with a beautiful blush on her face because her husband had sent a beautiful saree for her in the afternoon and then called her to wear that one on their date that night.
And so, she wanted to look the best for her husband. The door was opened and Sanskriti saw Abhimanyu enter while typing something on his phone.
She waited for him to acknowledge her but pouted when he didn't.
“Ready?”
He asked while typing on his phone and she hummed. He finally kept his phone in the inner pocket of his suit jacket and looked up at her.
His eyes got stuck at her form and mouth fell open. She blushed and looked away giggling.
“You-you look…beautiful.”
He breathed the word out and she went red. He took steps forward towards her and gently held her hand. He placed a soft kiss on her knuckles while looking into her eyes and she felt butterflies in her stomach.
“Let's go.”
She nodded and they went downstairs. His parents were sitting in the living room and looked at them with matching frowns as the two walked hand in hand.
His father asked him where they were going to which Abhimanyu said that he was taking Sanskriti out on a date. Sanskriti didn't look up but Abhimanyu noticed the look his parents exchanged but brushed it off for later.
Right now, he just wanted to enjoy his time with his wife. The wife he had started to fall in love with.
They reached the place Abhimanyu had booked for them and it was like a fairytale. Sanskriti looked around in awe.
“This is so beautiful. Thank you.”
She whispered and he just kissed her knuckles in response.
They had a good time together. The two were slow dancing after having their food. Their gaze locked on each other's as they swayed to the music.
Abhimanyu pulled her closer and her arms went around his neck. He slowly leaned in and bent down to take her lips in a slow kiss. She gasped at the suddeness but soon started responding.
Both of their heartbeats fast as if they'd just run a marathon. He pulled back with a soft tug at her lips as his fingers kept caressing her bare waist.
She slowly opened her eyes and looked into his. He smiled and kissed her forehead.
“I love you.”
He whispered softly and she looked at him with twinkling eyes. He loved it about her. Her eyes were so expressive. She didn't have to say anything because he understood her unsaid feelings.
Just as he leaned in to kiss her again, his phone rang making him groan in annoyance.
He frowned seeing his father's name. He knew his father wouldn't call unless important because he knew that they were out together.
“Haan papa?...Kya baat hai?...Arre hua kya batao toh…Fine, we'll be there in an hour.”
He kept the phone back and looked at her. She was looking at him with concern all the while.
“Kya hua?”
“We'll have to cut the date short. Ghar jaana padega. There's something papa wants to talk about. It's important.”
Sanskriti nodded and they drove back home.
Just as they entered their house, Sanskriti was pulled by her mother-in-law harshly as the woman shook her violently.
“Kaha rakhe hai wo documents?”
Sanskriti was shocked and confused. Abhimanya stopped his mother and held Sanskriti.
“Kya hua hai? And what are you doing mom?”
He asked regarding her behaviour towards Sanskriti.
“Kya hua hai? Iss ladki se puchh kya hua hai?”
Both Abhimanyu and Sanskriti looked confused.
“Jo upcoming project hum launch krne wale the. The highly confidential one. Uske papers missing hai. Mujhe contract ke kisi clause mai doubt tha toh maine lawyer ko bola tha ek baar check krne ko and he found out that the documents were missing.”
His father explained and Abhimanyu looked at him surprised.
“Ok! What does that have anything to do with Sanskriti?”
“Kyunki aur koi nhi hai jisse uss project leak se faayda hota. Iske baap ke alawa.”
Sanskriti shook her head violently. Her throat clogged with fear. She hadn't done anything.
Her father-in-law stood in front of her trying to intimidate her and she shrunk back into Abhimanyu.
